DHC Folic Acid, 60 Days

The Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare of Japan recommends a daily intake of 400 mcg of folic acid for women planning to become pregnant. Folic acid is a type of B vitamin found abundantly in green-yellow vegetables, liver, fruits, and legumes. It plays a significant role in the healthy development of a baby during pregnancy.

It is widely known that the intake of folic acid by women trying to conceive, as well as by pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, stimulates the synthesis of new cells and proteins, which are necessary for strengthening the skin and mucous membranes of the growing body. Additionally, taking folic acid in early pregnancy reduces the risk of neural tube defects, which form the central nervous system.

Why is folic acid poorly absorbed from food? Folic acid is highly water-soluble and sensitive to heat, causing much of it to be lost during food preparation. Also, folic acid in food mostly exists as polyglutamic acid, which is difficult for the body to absorb. Therefore, folic acid produced in a laboratory in its monomeric form is highly effective and easily absorbed.
